komprEXact - manual honing with maximum precision

Manual honing with a handheld drill or column drilling machine

komprEXact honing tools enable high-precision manual honing without a honing machine, machining center or turning center. They are driven by a handheld drill or column drilling machine and are suitable for through bores, blind bores, coaxial bores and stepped bores.

Benefits of mobile honing

  • Complex honing fixtures can be avoided.
  • Large or difficult-to-move components can be machined with high precision.
  • Mobile repairs are possible on site – including directly on installed aircraft landing gear.
  • The integrated EXact system ensures repeatable diameters within tight tolerances.

How the komprEXact honing tool works

  1. The tool is set to the target diameter outside the bore. To do this, it is preloaded using the twist sleeve and limited to the required diameter by the EXact stop.
  2. The tool is relaxed and inserted into the bore.
  3. The adjustment system is tensioned to the first preload stage, after which the manually guided honing movement begins.
  4. Material removal can be identified by the torque. Once the target diameter has been reached, the torque decreases and the bore can be given a short spark-out phase.

As the honing stones wear over their service life, the tool preload can be increased using the second preload stage of the adjustment system.

During manual honing, a continuous, low flow of metalworking fluid into the bore supports uniform machining conditions.

Achievable form and dimensional accuracy

With suitable tool configuration and process control, the following results can be achieved repeatably:

  • Cylindricity: less than 2 µm
  • Roundness: less than 1 µm
  • Diameter tolerance: ±1 µm

Precision honing of coaxial bores and stepped bores

komprEXact tools with two honing sections machine two bore diameters with just one tool. The individual honing diameters can be precisely matched to one another to machine coaxial bores and stepped bores with dimensional accuracy.

Ensuring coaxiality after bushing installation

After bushings have been installed in landing gear components, komprEXact honing tools produce the coaxiality required for the shaft to be installed later. This reduces the risk that bushings have to be installed again because separately honed bore sections are not aligned.
